Ayurveda
The word Ayurveda is composed
of two terms, 'Ayush' meaning life and 'veda' meaning knowledge
or science. unlike other systems, Ayurveda advocates a lifestyle.
Etymologically Ayurveda means the science of life or biology.
Ayurveda believes in treatment of not just affected parts,
but the individual as a whole, making it the natural way to
refresh yourself, eliminate all toxic imbalances from the
body and thus regain resistance and good health. Ayurveda
provides rational help for the treatment of many internal
diseases that are considered to be obstinate and incurable
in other systems of medicine. It lays a great deal of emphasis
upon maintenance of positive health of an individual.

Kathakali
Kathakali is a most famous
Dance-Drama of Kerala. The origin of this classical art form
is considered to be over 1500 years old. It is a marvellous
blend of the masculine and feminine elements of dancing. Themes
are drawn from Indian myths and the characters are Gods, Humans
and Demons.

Kalaripayattu was Kerala's art
of Self defence in the past. There are still many centers
that train youngsters in this age old form of self defence.

Dance
It is the typical dance
form of Kerala, that exudes enchantment grace and passion.
It is the fusion of Bharathanatya and Kathakali and the performances
are done only by women.

Festival
Theyyam is the
ritual dance form, associated with the cult of Goddes Bhagavathy.
Theyyam is always perform by men and they are often costumed
as women in exotic make-up. |

Cattle Race
Cattle race are held in the villages after the harvest, and
coincides with the Onam festival. Being an annual event, It
is eagerly awaited by the village folks. |

Ananthapuram Lake Temple
This 9th century temple is the only lake temple in Kerala and
is the moolasthanam (original abode) of Ananthapadmanaba,
the deity of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple, Trivandrum. |

Guruvayur Temple (29
km west of Trichur)
Guruvayur, where the famous Sree Krishna Temple is situated,
is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres of Kerala.
In the Chuttambalam (outer enclosure) of the temple
is a 33.5 m tall gold-plated Dhwajasthambam (flag post).
There is also a 7m high Deepasthambam (pillar of lamps)
whose thirteen circular receptacles provide a truly brilliant
spectacle when lit. The square Sreekovil is the sacred
sanctum sanctorum of the temple, housing the main deity. Only
Hindus are allowed inside the temple. |

Punnathur Kotta (2km
from Guruvayur temple)
Over 55 majestic temple elephants here make an unusual spectacle. |

Cheruthuruthy (32
km north of Trichur) The
seat of Kerala Kalamandalam - the music and dance academy which
was founded by the famous poet, Vallathol Narayana Menon. Training
in Kathakaly, Mohiniyattom, Thullal and other traditional art
forms is imparted here. Cultural programmes are also arranged. |

Athirapally Waterfalls (85
km from Cochin) This
80 foot high waterfall at the threshold of the Sholayar ranges
